Matt Mitrione Suspended From the UFC

Matt Mitrione was suspended indefinitely from the UFC for comments he made about transgender MMA fighter Fallon Fox. When being interviewed on the MMA Hour, Mitrione had this to say about Fox:
“I watched one of the fight videos and holy (expletive), I haven’t seen a man beat a woman (like that) since Chris Brown beat Rihanna. That’s exceptional how he beats innocent, unknowing women like that.”
“She’s not a he. He’s a he. He’s chromosomally a man. He had a gender change, not a sex change. He’s still a man. He was a man for 31 years. Thirty-one years. That’s a couple years younger than I am. He’s a man. Six years of taking performance dehancing drugs, you think is going to change all that? That’s ridiculous. That is a lying, sick, sociopathic, disgusting freak.”
The UFC has suspended Mitrione indefinitely, stating, “The organization finds Mr. Mitrione’s comments offensive and wholly unacceptable and – as a direct result of this significant breach of the UFC’s code of conduct…”
I’m sooo disappointed that Mitrione would say something like this. I remember really disliking the guy during The Ultimate Fighter, but he slowly grew on me afterwards. His “understanding” of transgender issues is mind-blowingly wrong, both scientifically and, in my opinion, morally.
It’s interesting to me how swiftly the UFC acted on this. I have to imagine that with more and more events happening on Fox, Dana White is going to cut off any bad publicity like this immediately. Regardless, I expect a Mitrione apology any moment now.

Will 2013 Bring MMA to NY?
2013 has just started, but it might be the best year ever for NY MMA fans. 2013 might be the year in which we actually see MMA legalized in NY. Jon Jones vs. Anderson Silva in Madison Square Garden? Yes, please! According to the NY Daily News, resistance to MMA in the NY assembly is loosening.
The opposition will also lose some of its fight when Assemblyman Robert Reilly (D-Albany) retires this week. Reilly fought vehemently to kill past efforts to legalize a sport that he considers to be barbaric.
Sheldon Silver still provides the biggest block to MMA in NY, who, as Assembly Speaker, can decide what legislation is brought forth for a vote. However Sheldon admits that “Resistance to (MMA) is getting less,” so hopefully we’ll finally get to see MMA in the Big Apple.
Pantydropper of the Week: Liz Carmouche
We’ve been off the grid for awhile as we try to get our site back in order, and as things begin to settle down, it’s time to bring back the much loved Pantydropper of the Week. Who better to kick off our re-boot than Liz Carmouche? A lot of the news has been about Ronda Rousey breaking the gender barrier by getting the first UFC Women’s MMA fight. And she certainly deserves mad props. However, I gotta give Liz Carmouche much love for not only being part of the first women’s MMA match on the UFC, but for becoming the first openly gay UFC fighter. Huzzah, Liz!
Pantydropper Rating: 5 - Like Big John says, “Let’s get it on!”
Ronda Rousey Officially Given First UFC Fight
It’s official! The UFC will be presenting their first ever women’s MMA fight at UFC 157, when Ronda Rousey takes on Liz Carmouche. According to TMZ (still hard to type after all this time), this is a main event fight, and Rousey’s belt is up for grabs. The fight comes a little over two years after Dana White famously said, women will never fight in the UFC.
This is incredibly exciting news for those of us who are fans of women’s MMA, and huge credit has to got to Rousey, who managed to accomplish something that even Zuffa/Sherdog darling Gina Carano could not. Liz Carmouche was a wise choice, as veterans always make popular fighters. UFC 157 takes place on February 23rd in Anaheim, CA. Damn I wish I could be there.
Dana White’s TV Appearance Stirs Controversy
Dana White, in only the special way he is able, is part of a new kerfuffle about a video he was in for Fox NFL Sunday. In the video Dana has a small cameo as a homeless man, and the twitter wars began almost immediately after airing. Huffington Post has a nice summary of the twitter fights here. So is this truly offensive, or just a sign of the super PC ages? As Beth so eloquently put it, “I really don’t see what the big deal is about. In the grand scale of offensive things that Dana White has said, this doesn’t even register.” Thoughts? You can watch the video below. White shows up at the 1:52 mark.
Ronda Rousey Likes Sex Before Fights
This video made our very own Cory rock in a corner sucking his thumb for 4 hours. Men should watch this with caution. You’ve been warned.
Chael Sonnen and Jon Jones the Next TUF Coaches
In the latest installment of WHOOOO, What?!?!?!, it’s been announced that Chael Sonnen and Jon Jones will coach the next season of TUF, giving Sonnen the title shot against Jon Jones for which he so desperately shilled.
This news can best be summed up by this interaction between Midge and Cory:
Midge: So…whatabout sonnen v. Griffin? Does sonnen get the title shot now? Hendo v. Machida gets the winner? I’m so confused…
Cory: cancelled. yes.no. we all are.
Ronda Rousey in the UFC? Sure, says White.
What better story to have as our first official “We’re Back!” post than the news that Dana White would “absolutely, positively” bring Ronda Rousey into the UFC for one off fights. This is quite a statement from a guy who, when asked when women would fight in the UFC replied, “Never.”
There’s no doubt that Rousey has brought some much needed attention to women’s MMA, and l’m excited about the prospect of women getting some attention in the UFC. In an organization that has made some questionable decisions lately (Silva vs. Bonner? I can’t…) this might be their best idea in awhile. We’ll keep you posted!
