On Monday, UFC fighter John Thomson asked what could only be described as a stupid, troll worthy question on Facebook: ”Should you be allowed to marry whoever you want? Before you answer that, should u be allowed to have more than 1 wife?”
Unfortunately, it’s his comments that move this quickly into bad territory.
When asked ”Should you be allowed to decide what other sound-minded adults do with their lives?”
He had this to say:
I’m only asking a question. My next question is, should siblings be allowed to marry siblings? My point is, where do you draw the line? I personally don’t care who you marry but I also am smart enough to know that it opens a gateway to men/women trying to marry young kids, siblings marrying eachother and people having multiple husbands an wives. You have to think all of these things are okay otherwise your stopping them from being happy as well which is hypocrisy. Equality doesn’t stop with gay marriage, it just starts with it.
When someone commented, “Where do we draw the line? Is that your best argument? You do realize Josh Thomson that was the same thing said before we let blacks marry whites… Seems we’re doing ok since then.” Josh responsed,
Blacks an whites getting married is nothing like this. So your okay with R. Kelly trying To marry lil girls? People trying to marry their brother or sister? Animals? Etc? Those people want the same exact thing, to be happy. Are you gonna tell them no?
I couldn’t be more sick of people comparing giving gay men and women the right to marry to pedophilia and bestiality. Perhaps John should spend less time worry about what people do in their bedrooms, and more time focused about his MMA career.
Some of the comments are actually quite spectacular now that this has gotten some press. You can find the original facebook post here.
Josh has since “apologized” by blaming the media.
I am not against gay rights or gay marriage in anyway. My comments were completely taken out of context by some members of the media and I have since removed them out of respect for anyone who may have been offended. It was not my intention to offend or hurt anyone.
Dude. Really? Did you not learn from Matt Mitrione? And I really think that’s an incorrect characterization of Brian Caraway. The man gets to hump on Miesha Tate whenever he likes. Probably not something the “biggest Fag in the world” would be doing. It’s becoming very clear that the days of dropping F bombs (even Dana White is guilty) is over. And it has to be. For UFC to have any chance in the mainstream they can’t have their fighters saying stuff like this anymore in a public forum.
And almost just as bad is the BS his agent, Mike Kogan, was spouting to MMA Junkie to try and make it better.
This is such bullshit I can’t even stand it. On the day after a man was shot and killed in Greenwich Village for being gay, I don’t think that we’re anywhere near the point where you can say the word fag doesn’t have anything to do with being gay. Next time just call him a punk or a bitch and save yourself $20,000 and 3 months of suspension.
What the hell does a gal have to do to see MMA live in NY? Well, apparently we have to sue the state cause that’s what my sister and I did. We were super jazzed to become part of Zuffa’s lawsuit to make MMA legal in NY. And man it’s been a long time. I’m way too impatient to ever be a lawyer. But we’re part of it! And hooray for victory! Well, kind of at least. Fightline.com explained it so pretty for us all.
In what was supposed to be a day of oral arguments pertaining to the State Attorney General’s most recent motion to dismiss, attorney John M. Schwartz – representing the Attorney General’s office – acknowledged unequivocally that the law prohibiting pro MMA did not apply to amateur versions of the sport, and that as per the statute, a pre-approved third-party sanctioning body could oversee MMA events in the state. The admission of the latter prompted the counsel representing Zuffa’s interests to say that if that were truly the case, then there’d be no further need to pursue the lawsuit – which in turn prompted the presiding Judge Kimba Wood of the U.S District Court of the Southern District of New York to push both sides to immediately settle.
Hee hee. They said oral. But wait there’s more.
Notwithstanding whether a settlement is reached, the door is now open for Zuffa – or any other MMA promotion – to circumvent the ban by utilizing one of the pre-approved sanctioning bodies enumerated in the statute. Those sanctioning bodies include the World Karate Association (since renamed the World Kickboxing Association, a.k.a. the “WKA”), the Professional Karate Association and the U.S. Judo Association, among others.
So there you have it. One step closer to my happy ass sitting in MSG and watching some MMA.
2013 has just started, but it might be the best year ever for NY MMA fans. 2013 might be the year in which we actually see MMA legalized in NY. Jon Jones vs. Anderson Silva in Madison Square Garden? Yes, please! According to the NY Daily News, resistance to MMA in the NY assembly is loosening.
The opposition will also lose some of its fight when Assemblyman Robert Reilly (D-Albany) retires this week. Reilly fought vehemently to kill past efforts to legalize a sport that he considers to be barbaric.
Sheldon Silver still provides the biggest block to MMA in NY, who, as Assembly Speaker, can decide what legislation is brought forth for a vote. However Sheldon admits that “Resistance to (MMA) is getting less,” so hopefully we’ll finally get to see MMA in the Big Apple.
We’ve been off the grid for awhile as we try to get our site back in order, and as things begin to settle down, it’s time to bring back the much loved Pantydropper of the Week. Who better to kick off our re-boot than Liz Carmouche? A lot of the news has been about Ronda Rousey breaking the gender barrier by getting the first UFC Women’s MMA fight. And she certainly deserves mad props. However, I gotta give Liz Carmouche much love for not only being part of the first women’s MMA match on the UFC, but for becoming the first openly gay UFC fighter. Huzzah, Liz!
Pantydropper Rating: 5 - Like Big John says, “Let’s get it on!”
It’s official! The UFC will be presenting their first ever women’s MMA fight at UFC 157, when Ronda Rousey takes on Liz Carmouche. According to TMZ (still hard to type after all this time), this is a main event fight, and Rousey’s belt is up for grabs. The fight comes a little over two years after Dana White famously said, women will never fight in the UFC.
This is incredibly exciting news for those of us who are fans of women’s MMA, and huge credit has to got to Rousey, who managed to accomplish something that even Zuffa/Sherdog darling Gina Carano could not. Liz Carmouche was a wise choice, as veterans always make popular fighters. UFC 157 takes place on February 23rd in Anaheim, CA. Damn I wish I could be there.
Dana White, in only the special way he is able, is part of a new kerfuffle about a video he was in for Fox NFL Sunday. In the video Dana has a small cameo as a homeless man, and the twitter wars began almost immediately after airing. Huffington Post has a nice summary of the twitter fights here. So is this truly offensive, or just a sign of the super PC ages? As Beth so eloquently put it, “I really don’t see what the big deal is about. In the grand scale of offensive things that Dana White has said, this doesn’t even register.” Thoughts? You can watch the video below. White shows up at the 1:52 mark.
This video made our very own Cory rock in a corner sucking his thumb for 4 hours. Men should watch this with caution. You’ve been warned.
Geez. A couple of gals go to Paris for some
whoring relaxation and the world turns on its axis while we’re gone. A massive hurricane on the east coast ”stranded” us in Amsterdam. Oh the horror! And following that up the UFC has signed it’s first two women. Huzzah! Our favorite pretty, pretty princess, Ronda Rousey, and that other chick, Miesha Tate, have made it to the big show. Wheee!
But let’s be honest. Who here really wants to see Miesha Tate get destroyed by Rousey again? The fight we all want to see if Rousey vs. Cyborg. Am I right or am I right? Here’s where we get to the controversy. Ronda Rousey wants Cyborg to come down to 135 and fight her. Cyborg says that there’s no way she can safely get down to 135. Her heart, ovaries, etc. just couldn’t take it. She had also said previously that since Rousey has fought at 145 before that Rousey would only insist on fighting at 135 so Rousey would have an advantage. But wait there’s more. UFC only has a women’s Bantamweight division at this point so should Cyborg have to head on down to 135 and fight in that weight division to be considered for a fight?
Here’s what I’m thinking and I hope you’ll discuss this with me. This is the perfect example of how catch weight fights can rock the universe. I have no interest in seeing Cyborg drop down to 135 and then blame a potential loss on dropping so much weight, just as I have no interest in Rousey fighting at 145 and then blaming a potential loss on being a fatty fatty two-by-four. Make these gals meet at 140 and we can enjoy watching what I think will truly be a women’s MMA fight that has the potential to skyrocket women’s involvement in the sport. And as far as the UFC only having a Bantamweight division argument is concerned, I say suck it. UFC is taking a chance with WMMA and they absolutely have the right to make sure that the fans see the absolute best fights possible. And I want to see this fight, dammit! Discuss….
In the latest installment of WHOOOO, What?!?!?!, it’s been announced that Chael Sonnen and Jon Jones will coach the next season of TUF, giving Sonnen the title shot against Jon Jones for which he so desperately shilled.
This news can best be summed up by this interaction between Midge and Cory:
Midge: So…whatabout sonnen v. Griffin? Does sonnen get the title shot now? Hendo v. Machida gets the winner? I’m so confused…
Cory: cancelled. yes.no. we all are.
