Dude. Really? Did you not learn from Matt Mitrione? And I really think that’s an incorrect characterization of Brian Caraway. The man gets to hump on Miesha Tate whenever he likes. Probably not something the “biggest Fag in the world” would be doing. It’s becoming very clear that the days of dropping F bombs (even Dana White is guilty) is over. And it has to be. For UFC to have any chance in the mainstream they can’t have their fighters saying stuff like this anymore in a public forum.

And almost just as bad is the BS his agent, Mike Kogan, was spouting to MMA Junkie to try and make it better.

This is such bullshit I can’t even stand it. On the day after a man was shot and killed in Greenwich Village for being gay, I don’t think that we’re anywhere near the point where you can say the word fag doesn’t have anything to do with being gay. Next time just call him a punk or a bitch and save yourself $20,000 and 3 months of suspension.

Matt Mitrione was suspended indefinitely from the UFC for comments he made about transgender MMA fighter Fallon Fox. When being interviewed on the MMA Hour, Mitrione had this to say about Fox:

“I watched one of the fight videos and holy (expletive), I haven’t seen a man beat a woman (like that) since Chris Brown beat Rihanna. That’s exceptional how he beats innocent, unknowing women like that.”

“She’s not a he. He’s a he. He’s chromosomally a man. He had a gender change, not a sex change. He’s still a man. He was a man for 31 years. Thirty-one years. That’s a couple years younger than I am. He’s a man. Six years of taking performance dehancing drugs, you think is going to change all that? That’s ridiculous. That is a lying, sick, sociopathic, disgusting freak.”

The UFC has suspended Mitrione indefinitely, stating, “The organization finds Mr. Mitrione’s comments offensive and wholly unacceptable and – as a direct result of this significant breach of the UFC’s code of conduct…”

I’m sooo disappointed that Mitrione would say something like this. I remember really disliking the guy during The Ultimate Fighter, but he slowly grew on me afterwards. His “understanding” of transgender issues is mind-blowingly wrong,  both scientifically and, in my opinion, morally.

It’s interesting to me how swiftly the UFC acted on this. I have to imagine that with more and more events happening on Fox, Dana White is going to cut off any bad publicity like this immediately. Regardless, I expect a Mitrione apology any moment now.

What the hell does a gal have to do to see MMA live in NY?  Well, apparently we have to sue the state cause that’s what my sister and I did.  We were super jazzed to become part of Zuffa’s lawsuit to make MMA legal in NY. And man it’s been a long time.  I’m way too impatient to ever be a lawyer.  But we’re part of it!  And hooray for victory!  Well, kind of at least.  Fightline.com explained it so pretty for us all.

In what was supposed to be a day of oral arguments pertaining to the State Attorney General’s most recent motion to dismiss, attorney John M. Schwartz – representing the Attorney General’s office – acknowledged unequivocally that the law prohibiting pro MMA did not apply to amateur versions of the sport, and that as per the statute, a pre-approved third-party sanctioning body could oversee MMA events in the state. The admission of the latter prompted the counsel representing Zuffa’s interests to say that if that were truly the case, then there’d be no further need to pursue the lawsuit – which in turn prompted the presiding Judge Kimba Wood of the U.S District Court of the Southern District of New York to push both sides to immediately settle.

Hee hee.  They said oral.  But wait there’s more.

Notwithstanding whether a settlement is reached, the door is now open for Zuffa – or any other MMA promotion – to circumvent the ban by utilizing one of the pre-approved sanctioning bodies enumerated in the statute. Those sanctioning bodies include the World Karate Association (since renamed the World Kickboxing Association, a.k.a. the “WKA”), the Professional Karate Association and the U.S. Judo Association, among others.

So there you have it.  One step closer to my happy ass sitting in MSG and watching some MMA.

2013 has just started, but it might be the best year ever for NY MMA fans. 2013 might be the year in which we actually see MMA legalized in NY. Jon Jones vs. Anderson Silva in Madison Square Garden? Yes, please! According to the NY Daily News, resistance to MMA in the NY assembly is loosening.

The opposition will also lose some of its fight when Assemblyman Robert Reilly (D-Albany) retires this week. Reilly fought vehemently to kill past efforts to legalize a sport that he considers to be barbaric.

Sheldon Silver still provides the biggest block to MMA in NY, who, as Assembly Speaker, can decide what legislation is brought forth for a vote. However Sheldon admits that “Resistance to (MMA) is getting less,” so hopefully we’ll finally get to see MMA in the Big Apple.
